Measles cases in Washington have reached 10 so far this year.

Most recently, two measles cases were recorded in King County last week, according to a news release from Public Health-Seattle and King County.

A child and an adult of the same household were confirmed to have the virus. Officials believe the two were exposed while hosting an international visitor who reported being ill. The child had previously received one dose of the MMR vaccine, while the adult’s vaccination status is unknown.

The visitor has since left, but the individuals traversed the following public locations from June 14 to June 20:

  • Bellevue Fire Station—June 14 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic Parish in Bellevue—June 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Lake Union Swim Academy in Seattle—June 15 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Mary Wayte Pool in Mercer Island—June 18 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Issaquah Costco—June 18 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Overlake Clinics Newcastle Urgent Care—June 19 from 1:20 p.m. to 4:20 p.m.
  • Seattle Children’s Hospital: Forest B parking garage, Forest B parking garage elevators, Forest pharmacy, Forest B Level 1 lobby—June 20 from 11:50 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Seattle Children’s Hospital: Emergency department lobby—June 20 from 12 p.m. to 2:05 p.m.
  • Seattle Children’s Hospital: Emergency department—June 20 from 3:40 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Those at the public locations who have not been vaccinated against measles would become sick from June 21 to July 13, according to Public Health.

Measles is highly contagious, with symptoms including fever, rash, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. However, two doses of the MMR vaccine are 97% effective at preventing the virus, officials noted.

Public Health-Seattle and King County previously reported the individuals were at Lake Union Swim Academy in Seattle from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., but later corrected it to 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
