Claire’s, a mall retailer of accessories and jewelry primarily aimed towards tween and teen girls, announced it is closing more than 290 stores nationwide.

Claire’s filed for bankruptcy earlier this month for the second time in seven years. As part of the bankruptcy process, Claire’s is liquidating many of its stores, most of which are located within shopping malls. The company has 785 Claire’s stores, in addition to 45 Icing locations, that are not expected to close.

Claire’s Holdings LLC sold its business to private equity firm Ames Watson for $104 million on Aug. 20.

A specific date for the store closings has not been announced, but it is expected to occur on a rolling basis, according to KIRO 7.

Which WA stores are closing?

Four Claire’s stores in Washington are expected to close.

The Claire’s located in the Redmond Town Center is going to close, just as the store located in the Factoria Square will as well. The other two stores closing in Washington are located within the Centralia Fashion Outlets and on 320th Street in Federal Way.

The four states with the most store closures are California with 25, New York with 18, and Illinois and Pennsylvania with 16.
