The Seattle rain traveled with the Mariners over to Detroit as they prepare to face the Tigers in Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series (ALDS) on Tuesday afternoon.

At 12:17 p.m., the Detroit Tigers announced that Game 3 of the ALDS will be delayed due to inclement weather in the area. The team did not provide an updated timeline for the first pitch.

Rain showers and a possibility of a thunderstorm were expected to loom over the Detroit Tigers’ Comerica Park ahead of the previously scheduled start time at 1:08 p.m., according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Unlike Seattle’s T-Mobile Park, the Tigers’ field does not have a roof to fend off the rain, and eager Mariner fans preparing to watch the game will now have to endure a lengthy weather delay ahead of game time.

Sports fanatics generally dread a weather delay or possible postponement of the game, but Mariners fans may have even more reason to root against Tuesday’s potential delay.

Seattle Mariners’ poor performance after rain delays

The Seattle Mariners have endured six weather delays in the 2025 season, with a majority of the games resulting in less-than-favorable outcomes.

On May 20, following a one-hour and 35-minute delay, the Mariners suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Chicago White Sox on the road at Guaranteed Rate Field. The following month, on June 26, the Mariners were thumped in a 10-1 loss on the road against the Minnesota Twins after a four-hour, 20-minute rain delay.

On July 8 v. the Yankees in the Bronx, the Mariners lost 10-3 after a 35-minute rain delay suspended the game in the top of the fifth inning. Pitcher Logan Gilbert cruised through his first four innings, giving up only one hit and keeping the score tied at zero before the delay.

Once the delay ended, Gilbert stayed on the mound, only to give up four earned runs on five hits, including a three-run home run to Giancarlo Stanton.

On Aug. 13, following a nearly two-hour rain and thunderstorm delay in Baltimore v. the Orioles, the Mariners lost 4-3 despite a late-game effort plating two runs in the ninth to tie the game at three.

The following day, a two-hour and 18-minute rain delay resulted in a 5-3 loss against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. The Mariners left eight players on base in the game and went 0-7 with runners in scoring position.

On Aug. 17 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the Mariners played in the eighth Little League Classic game, losing to the New York Mets 7-3 after a one-hour and 40-minute rain delay.

In total, the Seattle Mariners are an abysmal 1-6 in all games delayed by inclement weather this season. The team conceded 37 runs to opponents after a weather delay and scored just 13 runs of its own in its six losses.

Rain delay in game three of the ALDS

As of approximately 10:37 a.m., a tarp was placed on the infield to shield it from ongoing rainfall. Neither team will take batting practice, although pitchers are on the field working through their pregame routines.

Due to a scheduling conflict, the entirety of the Mariners v. Tigers game has been moved to FS2, with the Yankees and Blue Jays playing on FS1, according to Andrew Marchand.
