A violent fight broke out inside the Thurston County jail last weekend, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
One inmate allegedly put another in a chokehold and refused to let go, causing corrections deputies to jump in to stop the altercation. The inmate fought back against the guards.
“A five-minute fight ensued between corrections deputies and the aggressor inmate, where the inmate grabbed and twisted the knee of a deputy under their body weight and refused to let go,” the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a post for social media.
Additionally, a sergeant chipped a tooth during the struggle.
“The aggressor inmate sustained injuries from the fight, including a black eye,” the sheriff’s office continued.
The inmate who started the fight was originally booked for domestic violence, but faces new charges of assaulting a corrections officer.
The correctional facility announced that the inmate in question will be moved to an isolated cell once they’re cleared from the hospital.
