Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers are investigating an alleged machete attack after a 53-year-old man arrived at a North Seattle hospital Sunday night.
At approximately 8 p.m., SPD responded to Swedish Medical Center in Ballard after a patient arrived with severe injuries from an assault with a machete, SPD announced.
The victim suffered from multiple lacerations on the left side of his head, left forearm, and left hand.
“These are severe injuries to his head, forearm, and hand,” SPD Detective Eric Munoz said. “And the laceration to the left side of the head was very, very deep.”
Victim and ex-girlfriend fight over money before machete attack
SPD determined that the victim’s former girlfriend confronted him about money near N.W. 46th Street and 9th Ave. N.W. in Ballard.
“The victim’s ex-girlfriend confronted him about money. During that argument, the new boyfriend began striking the victim with a machete,” Munoz said.
While the two were arguing, the woman’s new boyfriend began to strike the victim with a machete. The victim was able to escape in a vehicle with a friend and was driven to a nearby hospital. The suspect successfully escaped before police arrived.
After SPD found the location of the attack, a 20-foot blood trail was discovered. The scene was then processed for evidence.
The Lynnwood Police Department assisted the SPD in its search for the suspect, who may reside in Lynnwood. The suspect remains at large.
Anyone with information is urged to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000. SPD noted that anonymous tips are also accepted.
The investigation remains ongoing and has been assigned to the Homicide and Assault Unit.
