Seattle officials are sending out "John Letters" to drivers accused of engaging in sex trafficking on Aurora Avenue.

Seattle officials are sending out “John Letters” to drivers accused of engaging in sex trafficking on Aurora Avenue, KIRO 7 reported. The letters warn of legal action if their participation continues.

While KIRO host Ursula Reutin noted the letters could potentially be sent to people’s workplaces, KIRO host Gee Scott thinks that’s taking it too far, but would rather have the cars posted in the newspaper.

“Sending it to your job —I think that’s a bit too far. However, if you guys want to do, like back in Craigslist days, like if we missed each other, or help want it, and all that kind of stuff, just do something in The Seattle Times and put a section, post these cars right there so we can all see it,” Gee shared on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “I’d like that better than posting it and sending it to your job.”

“Whoa, wait, what — you want the ‘Dear John’ letter posted in the classifieds?” Ursula questioned.

“Oh yeah, have a link that we could go to so we can see all the people,” Gee replied.

“You think it’s going too far to go to the workplace, but you would put it out there for even more people to see than just your workplace?” Ursula asked again.

“Yeah,” Gee responded.

‘John Letters’ to ‘John of the month’?

His idea, instead of displaying a “student of the month,” is to have a “John of the month.”

“So every November 1, or every first of the month, we have a time where we talk about the ‘John of the month.’ Hey, this week’s ‘John of the month’ is Billy. Oh, Billy looks like he works at Boeing. And then, you know, we talk about it,” Gee quipped.

So far this month, the city has sent out at least 21 letters to drivers.

Seattle Police Department (SPD) Detective Maurice Washington explained that sex trafficking relies on demand.

“It’s a billion-dollar industry, it’s a $56 billion industry in the U.S. alone,” Washington told KIRO 7.

Ursula agreed that action needs to be taken.

“I think it is an awful problem. I think that there are these young girls who are being taken advantage of on Aurora. And it’s just sickening,” she said.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell discusses his achievements with Doug Baldwin and Gee Scott, emphasizing his leadership and vision for the city.

Four years after his original endorsement, former Seattle Seahawk Doug Baldwin joined KIRO host Gee Scott for a roundtable with Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell ahead of Tuesday’s election.

Topics ranged from Harrell’s plans for the city and his campaign against Katie Wilson to a more personal look into why he’s running for re-election.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell addresses public safety comment

Gee brought up a comment from Harrell that caught national attention regarding his stance on repeat offenders.

In a previous debate, Harrell was asked whether, if someone offended six, seven, or eight times, at what point should they take accountability. He responded that when someone is committing that many crimes, he wants to find out their story and that he had “no desire to put them in jail.”

To answer Gee, Harrell said he was excluding felony crimes in his response.

“When I’m hearing six or seven offenses, I’m thinking petty offenses, at which point I said that we, as a city, need to understand why this person is committing that offense,” Harrell said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

Police officers in schools could be an opportunity

Another controversial topic in Seattle has been the presence of police officers in schools. Harrell sees it as an opportunity for kids to have mentors and, therefore, prevent crime.

“One reason why I’m pushing for that is that a lot of these kids are experiencing trauma, and maybe they’ll bring a gun to school and put it in a locker because they’re walking around with untreated trauma,” he said. “Maybe they could look at an officer, someone that’s in safety, and that officer could have the skill set to come to develop that trusting relationship.”

A faith-based approach to cleaning up the streets

As for cleaning up the streets, the mayor is looking at a faith-based approach.

“We invested in a pilot downtown where a lot of people who are destroying themselves with fentanyl, and I said, ‘Let’s try a faith-based approach,’ because they might be able to get sheltered, they might be able to be kind, but they look in the mirror and they don’t see someone worthy of love. So that’s another strategy that we’ve employed,” he explained.

Harrell noted that he has spoken with mayors in other cities about what they’re doing to address the drug crisis.

“We are leading the way in our approaches, not following other cities,” Harrell shared. “You’ve been to other cities — you see how devastating some of their downtowns are. So we’ll try faith-based mentoring, everything that can help.”

‘A recipe for disaster’: Harrell comments on Wilson’s approach

Looking at challenger Katie Wilson’s approach, Harrell said there is nothing to get excited about.

“When my opponent talked about building 4,000 shelters, through the city, for emergency shelter for people to live in, her proposal is to take the very same money that we achieve through a $970 million levy for people, for teachers, for social workers, for baristas — that affordable housing chunk that we’re spending a billion dollars for — she’s talking about taking that and putting homeless people in those units that are earmarked, in the vacancies for those folks, without wraparound services — that is a recipe for disaster — and that is playing a short game with long term potential to be devastating,” he remarked.

Harrell said he has worked with other cities in King County to address homelessness, but will not shy away from ending the current funding model.

“What I’m doing right now, I have a motion that I’ve submitted to that board to say, ‘You have to become a regional approach. You have to put in resources, and it could be land, not just money, and if you don’t, we could terminate this deal,'” he explained. “So I’m prepared next year to either terminate their relationship or make sure that it’s regionalized, but this prolonged, ineffective model is unsatisfactory.”

Who is Bruce Harrell?

But beyond policy decisions, Baldwin asked who Bruce Harrell is as a person and what drives his decisions.

“Quite candidly, I’ll own it, but I think I’ve been scrutinized probably more than any mayor in recent history,” Harrell responded.

For example, Harrell said, a person on the far right called him lazy.

“He doesn’t have a clue as to how hard I work,” he expressed. “Everyone around me knows that, because I love it, it’s not even work when you love it.”

However, Harrell’s closing message targeted what he sees as Seattle’s missing middle.

“I have learned that there’s that missing swath of people, that middle swath of people, that need to be heard, they needed to be felt like they’re heard, and that, yes, I’ve been in a position of power, but they have to be convinced that not only am I the right person for the job, but I’m the right person for them,” he said.

“It’s incredibly damaging to public safety,” Attorney General Brown. “It’s creating a lot of fear… and I think we need to do more to keep people safe.”

Brown expressed deep concern about the tactics used in the arrest during a segment on the “Gee and Urusla Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

Brown went on to explain that while immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, the manner in which it’s being carried out matters deeply. His office is now pushing for stronger protections for immigrant families and workers across Washington.

Bad Bunny headlines this year's Super Bowl halftime show, sparking debate on its selection and audience reception.

This year’s Super Bowl halftime show performance will feature the Grammy Award-winning musician, Bad Bunny, which was followed by major controversy as a petition to remove the Puerto Rican singer has received more than 10,000 signatures.

As the petition called for country singer George Strait as a substitute, KIRO host Gee Scott divulged his personal dissatisfaction with the choice and summarized why many viewers across the U.S. may oppose the selection on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

“My daughter loves Bad Bunny, a lot of people do, but I am actually on the side of the Conservatives and whoever out there,” Gee said. “In 2020, it was Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, 2021 was The Weeknd, and in 2022 it was Dr. Dre, Snoop, and Eminem. People are thinking, ‘Can we get something for us next time?’ Then you gave them Kendrick Lamar last year, and they pushed the limits.

“I’m not saying George Strait, but Jay Z, who makes the decision, can you give us something? Give some love,” Gee continued. “You’re going to hit me with Kendrick Lamar last year, and I didn’t understand that. Then you hit me with Bad Bunny, I’m not going to understand that either.”

Several cars were towed this week from an empty commercial lot near the Lynnwood light rail station after fans parked there in order to take public transportation to Wednesday's Mariners game.

Several cars were towed this week from an empty commercial lot near the Lynnwood light rail station.

Dozens of fans parked their cars there in order to take public transportation to Wednesday’s Mariners game, only to find that their vehicles had been towed.

On “The Gee and Ursula Show,” Dana Tackett claimed she thought it was OK to park there.

“There were no signs. We know how to look for signs with no parking,” Tackett said. “There was no fencing. There were probably about, I would say, 20, 25 other cars there.”

According to Tackett, who didn’t know it was private property, the tow company collected and removed approximately 50 vehicles Wednesday night during the Mariners game.

“On that direct lot itself, or the driveway that we came in on, there is absolutely nothing that says no parking or private property,” Tackett added. “Nothing.”

The new Lynnwood City Center Light Rail station has a parking lot that fits 1,900 cars, but it fills up very quickly. Tackett and many others had to pay $400-650 to get their vehicles back.

“Everybody was doing the exact same thing, all of us Mariners fans walking across the street back to the transit center to step on the light rail to get down to Seattle,” Tackett said. “So we parked and then we came back after the game, and the lot was almost empty.”

Gee sides with towing companies

“I just want to say, if my kid had that happen to him, and he’s like, ‘Dad, I can’t believe this happened,’ I would say, as a parent, ‘Well, technically, you parked on someone’s private property,'” KIRO host Gee Scott said. “I know I sound like a jerk.”

“People have parked there for months with no issue,” Andrew Lanier, the producer of “The Gee and Ursula Show,” said. “There is not adequate space at light rail. Period. This is an issue at every single light rail station.”

Tackett revealed to the show that she intends to fight the fine in court.

“You can’t give them the broom to hit you with,” Gee responded. “Ursula, let’s say you’re the owner of this tow company. Hear me out. The [property] owner calls Ursula’s tow company. ‘Hey, Ursula, I need you to come get all of these cars.’ My question to you, Ursula, is, do you say, ‘I’m sorry, Mr. Owner. I will not be doing that because I think that those people are enjoying themselves at the game, and it’s just not right.’ Do you take your business elsewhere? Is that what you do?”

“You know the answer is going to be no, but I probably wouldn’t get into that business, and maybe I wouldn’t be looking for those opportunities to really stick it to them,” Ursula responded.

Explore the real meaning behind Trump Derangement Syndrome and its implications on political discourse and criticism.

Every time Gee and I criticize President Trump or his administration, some listeners text in with that tired refrain: “You’ve got Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

It used to bug me. Now? I wear it like a badge of honor.

Labeling fact-based criticism as “derangement” is a lazy deflection. We call out his actions because the stakes are real — and what’s transpired under this administration is alarming. All of it is also public record.

In the past nine months alone, President Trump has acted less like a public servant and more like a strongman. He’s invoked emergency powers to sidestep Congress, he’s thrown out career officials in favor of loyalists, and continues to attack journalists, calling them the enemy of the people.

Just this week, dozens of reporters handed in their badges in protest of the Pentagon’s new rules that would force them to sign away their independence.

These moves are aimed at consolidating power, silencing dissent, and chipping away at the very checks and balances that keep our democracy alive.

This should be worrisome to EVERYONE.

Trump has also gone after civil rights and diversity programs under the guise of being anti-woke.

And while his administration is handing out billions of dollars overseas — including a $20 billion package to Argentina — the U.S. government is now in its 15th day of a shutdown, with hundreds of thousands of federal workers missing paychecks. At the same time, deep cuts are hitting special education, food assistance, and other vital programs that serve the most vulnerable here at home.

Let’s not forget: he’s the first convicted felon to serve in the White House, he was found liable for sexual abuse and defamation, attempted to overturn a legitimate election, and called the January 6 rioters “patriots” — later pardoning them. He’s weaponized the Justice Department to punish opponents, and he rewards loyalists and grifters while firing anyone who dares to say “no.”

That’s a lot … but it doesn’t stop there.

He’s mocked scientists, turned public health into a culture war, pushed anti-trans policies, and demonized immigrants — all while using racial dog whistles. It’s been lucrative for him—he’s enriched himself by billions.

Meanwhile, working families are still struggling with grocery prices, and the Epstein files remain locked away.

If there’s a syndrome at play here, it’s Trump Denial Syndrome — the refusal to see corruption, cruelty, and authoritarian behavior even when it’s right in front of you.

Blind loyalty doesn’t make someone virtuous or more attractive. It makes them complicit. Too many right-wing influencers and media figures profit from that complicity. Their silence isn’t neutrality — it’s cowardice and a total grift.

That’s why dissent matters.

Democracy doesn’t die from outrage. It dies from apathy.

No, I don’t have Trump Derangement Syndrome.

I have a functioning moral compass — and I refuse to apologize for using it.

Median home prices across Seattle's metro region have dropped approximately $630,000, down 3% from last month, according to Northwest Multiple Listing Service.

A new Chamber of Commerce survey revealed that 80% of Seattle voters believe we are headed toward a recession, aligning with a report from MarketWatch that listed Washington among 22 other states showing signs of a recession.

Meanwhile, median home prices across Seattle’s metro region have dropped approximately $630,000, down 3% from last month, according to Northwest Multiple Listing Service.

“This is really about confidence. Once our confidence starts to wane a little bit, we start seeing rising rents, and grocery bills start climbing,” KIRO host Gee Scott said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “When we start seeing all of these things keep up at a higher pace than our paychecks, that’s when the economy truly is heading towards a recession. When we believe that a recession is coming, then we start to make cutbacks.”

Pierce County is staring down a significant budget deficit after the federal government initiated $1 trillion in funding cuts to Medicaid.

Pierce County is staring down a significant budget deficit after the federal government initiated $1 trillion in funding cuts to Medicaid.

Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello discussed the “Opportunity Knocks” program, a PBS show that highlights the many struggles Americans face in providing for their families, which made its first of 25 stops in Pierce County last weekend to help lift families out of poverty.

“It’s a brilliant idea, the show illustrates how real families, that we can all relate to, wake up to go to work every single day, and are still struggling to make ends meet and provide for their family,” Mello said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “We had 500 families come to the convention center in Tacoma to experience the power of the resources you get. Folks showed up on the spot with what their financial challenge was, and there were partners there ready to problem-solve.”

Mello also explained the budget deficit Pierce County must overcome amid the federal government’s decision to cut Medicaid funding, and the toll it has taken on essential services in the county.

“The major cuts to Medicaid being made by the federal government have blown a $1.5 billion hole in [Pierce County’s] local healthcare institutions’ budgets over the next 10 years. That’s a really serious issue being caused by the federal government,” Mello said. “We rely on the government to fund basic needs, support affordable housing, and veteran services. There is real harm. If the government shutdown continues, we’re going to experience more and more harm over time, with federal funds not flowing in, which are really critical to people’s daily lives.”

In the search for the best breakfast in Washington, Gee Scott revealed the necessary criteria used for labeling a restaurant as a personal fan-favorite.

In the search for the best breakfast spot in Washington, KIRO host Gee Scott revealed the necessary criteria used for labeling a restaurant as a personal fan-favorite on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

“95% of the reason a restaurant is your favorite is the people working, it’s not necessarily the food, but it’s the people. The people make that food taste better,” Gee said. “The best breakfast places are in rural areas. Those small towns where you can smell the coffee in the parking lot. Where the waitress comes up to you and says, ‘What’ll you have, hon?’ When they start calling you ‘Hon,’ or ‘Dear,’ just take my money. Take my money, all you rural restaurants.”

A member of the Tigers fanbase discussed his friendly wager with KIRO host Gee Scott and his prediction for the Game 5 result.

Hours before the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers face off in a winner-take-all matchup, a member of the Tigers fanbase, and a friend of KIRO host Gee Scott since seventh grade, joined “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio to discuss their friendly wager and his prediction for the Game 5 result.

Before the series began, Gee and Wolff bet on whichever team is victorious; the person on the losing side of the bet would have to wear the winning team’s apparel and post online, rooting for the winning team.

“The first three games, you and I didn’t say a word to each other,” Gee said.”Then, during Game 4, when the Mariners were up 3-0, I was feeling really confident. I sent you a text, and then six or seven minutes later, it turned.”

Detroit superfans’ outlook for Game 5

The American League’s reigning Cy Young winner, Tarik Skubal, will go head-to-head with Seattle’s All-Star Starting Pitcher, George Kirby, in tonight’s highly anticipated matchup.

“We have our ace, Tarik Skubal, on the mound, so I’m hoping for good things,” Wolff said. “It’s not going to be a no-hitter, but I hope we prevail. I’ll be happy if the score is 1-0.”

Gee mentioned the stark difference between Seattle’s T-Mobile Park and Detroit’s Comerica Field, begging for an answer as to why so many seats were unfilled in Detroit during Game 4.

“You know what, I can’t even answer that. You leave me speechless. I don’t know why we have empty seats,” Wolff said. “It could be people went up to the concessions stand and got something to drink. People also probably didn’t make it to their seats in time. We have to think about all of the avenues.”

For each of the Mariners’ playoff games, fan attendance has been plentiful, with fans showing up in droves to cheer on the No. 2-seeded hometown team.

“When you look at T-Mobile Park tonight, you are going to see that place packed; it is going to be so loud,” KIRO fill-in host Andrew Lanier said. “It is going to be intense. I think we just want it more.”

Wolff relayed a few kind words for the Mariners’ lineup and explained his nervousness about how the Tigers will match up tonight.

“Seattle, I can’t knock y’all. Y’all didn’t make it this far for nothing. You have a nice, decent squad,” Wolff said. “The middle of the lineup is pretty good. It’s going to be a very good game. I’m a little nervous.”

First pitch of the Mariners v. Tigers elimination is scheduled for 5:08 p.m. tonight in T-Mobile Park.

Former school resource office reacts to Seattle Public Schools deciding not to reinstate a campus police officer at Garfield High School.

The Seattle Public Schools Board decided not to reinstate a campus police officer at Garfield High School after a vote on Wednesday evening. The board meeting discussed the topic for approximately two hours and voted 5-2 in favor of not allowing police officers to return to Garfield’s campus, located in Seattle’s Central District.

Sergeant Mark Satterfield, KIRO host Gee Scott’s former military school resource officer, conveyed the need for resource officers in schools, saying they can act as mentors and build relationships with students.

“[Officers] are there for the kids, and when the kids need to talk to somebody, they can go talk to them,” Satterfield said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “They’re not trying to be drill sergeants; they’re there to mentor the kids, and they add that security factor to it. To me, it’s better to have than not.”

Building relationships, giving them somebody to talk to when they have problems, letting them know there’s no such thing as a bad student, being that positive mentor, that’s the biggest thing that they do,” Satterfield continued.

The commanding general of the Oregon National Guard stated that his deployed troops will protect protesters instead of ICE agents.

The commanding general of the Oregon National Guard stated that his deployed troops will protect protesters instead of ICE agents.

As President Donald Trump deployed National Guard troops in Portland, Oregon, National Guard Commander General Alan R. Gronewold made these claims while testifying in a city committee hearing.

“Oregon National Guard men and women serve two purposes: to defend America and to protect Oregonians,” Gronewold said. “So by serving this mission, they will be protecting any protesters at the ICE facility. That’s my desire.

“I would just like to request of each of you and please pass this on to your colleagues that our soldiers are on the home team, and our job is to protect and serve Oregonians, and we follow lawful orders, and that’s what we’re doing,” Gronewold continued.”

KIRO host Gee Scott commended Gronewolds’ statements, labeling him a leader, and explained how some National Guard members who have been deployed are simply following orders to keep their jobs.

“I would almost bet that some of the National Guards that are standing there in those situations are asking themselves, ‘Why am I here?'” Gee said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “I’m quite sure that a lot of them being deployed just want to do their job. Sometimes, when decisions are made at the top, if you don’t want to lose your job, you have to continue to do what you appear to be doing.”

U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed her dissatisfaction with healthcare and the Republican Party's failure to address rising premiums.

In a recent statement, U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed her dissatisfaction with the Affordable Care Act and the Republican Party’s failure to address rising premiums, stating that “not a single Republican in leadership has given us a plan to help Americans deal with their health insurance premiums.”

KIRO host Gee Scott agreed with Greene in the sense that politicians should support the American people as a whole, rather than one specific political party, claiming he looks forward to politicians “caring more about the [American] people than party lines.”

“They’re trying to protect Americans from having the working class, which is a majority of America, have their insurance premiums double,” Gee said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “When Marjorie Taylor Greene comes out and gives a warning saying, ‘I am not being loyal to this,’ She’s not being loyal to one party; she’s not loyal to Trump.
Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders outlined how the steep budget cuts could severely impact the community.

Budget cuts are looming for Thurston County as officials grapple with a $24 million shortfall that could strip $4.5 million from the sheriff’s office.

Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders outlined how the steep budget cuts could severely impact the community on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

“At the $4.5 million cut level, we would have had to shut a dorm in our jail down, which is just under 70 beds,” Sanders said. “Now, the thing that people need to remember about Thurston County Jail is that it used to be about 50% misdemeanor crimes, 50% felony crimes. Today, it fluctuates around 90% felony, 10% misdemeanor. We’re not talking about letting out people who couldn’t pay traffic fines, we’re talking about burglary, fraud, identity theft, those are the types of crimes we’re talking about.”

Brandon Mebane and his wife, Amena, show appreciation for being honored amongst some of Seattle's greatest football legends.

After being named a Top 50 Seattle Seahawk of All-Time, Brandon Mebane and his wife, Amena, expressed their appreciation for being honored amongst some of Seattle’s greatest football legends on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

“It is truly awesome, it makes me emotional just thinking about all that he’s been through, and all that we’ve been through as a family,” Amena said. “Just seeing him get this very special recognition means a lot to us.”

Brandon played a total of nine years in a Seahawks uniform throughout his 13-year career in the NFL. Brandon was a key figure in both the Seahawks’ Super Bowl runs in the mid-2000s, as a member of arguably one of the best defensive lineups of all time, the “Legion of Boom.”

“[Brandon] would say, as a nose tackle, it’s hard sometimes to get recognition,” Amena said. “You’re not making interceptions, you don’t do any of the visible stuff, so for him to be recognized and honored as one of the top 50 Seahawks of all time, that’s a big deal. It’s even more special that our kids get to see this because they were either not around or very little at the time [Brandon] was playing.”

"The Gee and Ursula Show" reinforced Seattle's argument for a top honeymoon destination while considering other fan favorite destinations in the country.

While KIRO Newsradio covered the recent Starbucks Reserve Roastery closures in Seattle, a couple who had added the Starbucks stop to their honeymoon plans were displeased with the sudden shutdown.

The shortcomings of the honeymoon couple’s plans led “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio to question: Is Seattle a good honeymoon destination?

“It is an amazing honeymoon destination. Don’t sleep on Seattle,” KIRO fill-in host Angela Poe Russell said. “Sometimes we get too familiar; we’ve been living here a long time, and we lose the magic. You can hike or ski; there’s also Pike Place Market. This place is pretty dope, and we just need to kind of remind ourselves of that sometimes.”

KIRO host Gee Scott praised Seattle’s weather as a strong appeal for out-of-state visitors to take advantage of, specifically noting that the region provides the best of both worlds with its comfortable summer weather and bearable winter seasons.

“For people who love the outdoors, are you kidding me? Seattle is the best,” Gee said. “You want to talk about the weather? We have the best weather in the world; it’s not too hot like some places in the south and on the East Coast in the summer. And it’s not extremely cold like North Dakota or Minnesota.”

Seattle has the second-lowest fertility rate among major U.S. cities.

Fewer women are having children across America, with Seattle hit particularly hard—the city has the second-lowest fertility rate among major U.S. cities, according to The Seattle Times, citing census data. Portland was the only city with lower fertility rates.

KIRO host Gee Scott said he’s not surprised people aren’t having children, given the uncertainty around future benefits like Social Security.

“In this area, most people that aren’t having kids—you do have some that don’t want to have kids—it’s not that they don’t want to have kids. There’s a lot of folks walking around who can’t afford to have kids,” he said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

Gee pointed out that none of his kids live in Seattle.

“None of them live here in Seattle. And good, because I got to tell you—it’s tough living here, like the cost of living is real,” he said.

Mariners fan Glenn, Marcus, and Marcus' dad were able to reunite on "The Gee and Ursula Show" to share their experiences of that night.

Seattle Mariners fan Glenn Mutti-Driscoll caught All-Star catcher Cal Raleigh’s 60th home run ball, but instead of keeping it for himself, he selflessly handed it to a 12-year-old next to him.

That lucky 12-year-old was Marcus Ruelos, who continued the generosity by giving the ball back to Cal.

“I wanted to do that because he hit the ball, his 60th home run, his family was there, and his special ball, he’ll keep it, and it’s just like a memory for him, a big memory,” Marcus said.

The act was touching for fan Glenn, who was happy to see his kindness reciprocated.

“It’s great,” he said. “I mean, couldn’t really script this any better. There’s still good people out there, I guess, just having faith in everyone else, or the person next to you, that they’re a good person, extend kindness to them. They’ll pay it back too.”

Glenn, Marcus, and Marcus’ dad were able to reunite on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio to share their experiences of that special night.

KIRO Newsradio reporter Luke Duecy was at the scene of the Portland ICE protests and said the violence was less threatening than portrayed.

Protesters rallied outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in Portland earlier this week, denouncing the Trump administration’s decision to deploy National Guard troops to the city.

KIRO Newsradio reporter Luke Duecy was at the scene, observing standoffs and tensions between both sides, but noted the violence was much less threatening than it was being portrayed.

“Has there been violence there? Yes, absolutely. Federal agents and officers firing rubber bullets and pepper spray at times, protesters throwing rocks and other objects, and spray-painted threats on the side of the ICE facility. I saw one message that read, Molotovs melt ice. I mean, obviously, encouraging people to throw Molotov cocktails at federal officers. That’s scary stuff, and that’s very serious. However, I didn’t see any Portland that was being ravaged like maybe the Trump administration is portraying,” Luke said on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio Wednesday.

Luke said he only saw a handful of protesters in Portland and nothing comparable to the violence in Seattle during the May Day protests.

“Yesterday morning, there were only one, and then two, who would trade off yelling at Homeland Security officers and ICE agents,” he shared. “Later in the morning, you’d see older folks, I think retirees, that age, who would show up with their homemade signs very peaceful on the sidewalk, looking for cars to honk with them in solidarity. It’s during the nights and weekends when the other agitators, like here in Seattle, who wear all black and masks, they move in and they start to become a little more aggressive.”

Luke added that both sides were antagonizing each other, but the situation isn’t black and white, and that many videos floating around on social media are misleading.

“It’s not exactly what you see, though, I would stress, in the media,” he emphasized.

Activists gather 10,000 signatures for Tacoma's $20 wage. Delays raise concerns. What’s next for the initiative?

Activists in Tacoma have collected 10,000 signatures to raise the minimum wage in Tacoma to $20 for big employers, among other things. The deadline for submission was Aug. 5, but the city council did not send it to the ballot until Aug. 8.

KIRO host Ursula Reutin alluded to the possible mishandling of the popular minimum wage increase initiative amongst voters, and whether city representatives stalled on purpose to leave it off the ballot altogether.

“Did the city council deliberately stall this initiative to keep voters from weighing in?” Ursula asked on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “The fight isn’t even about whether raising the wage is good or bad policy. It’s about whether Tacoma leaders are playing fair with their own rules, or blocking an initiative that they don’t like.”
