Seattle officials are sending out "John Letters" to drivers accused of engaging in sex trafficking on Aurora Avenue.

Seattle officials are sending out “John Letters” to drivers accused of engaging in sex trafficking on Aurora Avenue, KIRO 7 reported. The letters warn of legal action if their participation continues.

While KIRO host Ursula Reutin noted the letters could potentially be sent to people’s workplaces, KIRO host Gee Scott thinks that’s taking it too far, but would rather have the cars posted in the newspaper.

“Sending it to your job —I think that’s a bit too far. However, if you guys want to do, like back in Craigslist days, like if we missed each other, or help want it, and all that kind of stuff, just do something in The Seattle Times and put a section, post these cars right there so we can all see it,” Gee shared on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “I’d like that better than posting it and sending it to your job.”

“Whoa, wait, what — you want the ‘Dear John’ letter posted in the classifieds?” Ursula questioned.

“Oh yeah, have a link that we could go to so we can see all the people,” Gee replied.

“You think it’s going too far to go to the workplace, but you would put it out there for even more people to see than just your workplace?” Ursula asked again.

“Yeah,” Gee responded.

‘John Letters’ to ‘John of the month’?

His idea, instead of displaying a “student of the month,” is to have a “John of the month.”

“So every November 1, or every first of the month, we have a time where we talk about the ‘John of the month.’ Hey, this week’s ‘John of the month’ is Billy. Oh, Billy looks like he works at Boeing. And then, you know, we talk about it,” Gee quipped.

So far this month, the city has sent out at least 21 letters to drivers.

Seattle Police Department (SPD) Detective Maurice Washington explained that sex trafficking relies on demand.

“It’s a billion-dollar industry, it’s a $56 billion industry in the U.S. alone,” Washington told KIRO 7.

Ursula agreed that action needs to be taken.

“I think it is an awful problem. I think that there are these young girls who are being taken advantage of on Aurora. And it’s just sickening,” she said.

“It’s incredibly damaging to public safety,” Attorney General Brown. “It’s creating a lot of fear… and I think we need to do more to keep people safe.”

Brown expressed deep concern about the tactics used in the arrest during a segment on the “Gee and Urusla Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

Brown went on to explain that while immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, the manner in which it’s being carried out matters deeply. His office is now pushing for stronger protections for immigrant families and workers across Washington.

Seattle police officers are poised to see a significant pay boost under a new four-year contract between the city and the Police Officers Guild.

Seattle police officers are poised to see a significant pay boost under a new four-year contract between the city and the Police Officers Guild.

“Give them the dang money,” Gee said. “I’m not against the police. And we’re talking about the city of Seattle. I’d argue that when it comes to activity, the city of Seattle has a lot of activity.”

During a segment on The Gee and Ursula Show on KIRO Newsradio, co-host Gee Scott emphasized his support for the deal.

The contract also includes retroactive raises for 2024 and additional increases through 2027. Once the agreement is fully implemented, a rookie with about a year and a half on the job could earn around $132,000 annually, not including overtime or bonuses.

In addition to salary increases, the agreement expands the city’s care team—civilian crisis responders who handle certain 911 calls that do not require police officers. Supporters argue that the raises will help Seattle attract and retain officers in one of the country’s most expensive cities.

The Mariners’ recent season was an emotional roller coaster of joy and heartbreak, reminding fans why they keep coming back.

After the Mariners fell to the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, Kiro Radio Reporter Luke Duecy paid tribute to an unforgettable season with a special feature shared on social media.

“I’m proud of how far we got…there’s still a lot of promise for the M’s, and win or lose, always be a fan, and someday it will be our turn,” Duecy said.

As fans look forward, one thing is clear. The Mariners are not just a team; they are a community, a promise, and a source of joy that transcends the scoreboard. Win or lose, this season reaffirmed that Seattle will continue to dream, cheer, and rally behind the M’s. And someday, that long-awaited World Series celebration will come.

Seattle is buzzing with anticipation for next year’s FIFA World Cup, but early ticket prices have fans doing double takes.

Seattle is buzzing with anticipation for next year’s FIFA World Cup, but early ticket prices have fans doing double takes.

According to StubHub, a few premium seats are currently priced at $1 million each.

During a segment on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio, co-host Gee Scott said that he was shocked by the prices.

“The most I have heard about someone paying for a ticket was a little over $25,000,” Gee said. “These prices for the World Cup, oh, my goodness, four left at $1 million each!”

While most locals agree that the World Cup will bring a major economic boost, these early resale prices raise real concerns about accessibility.

Many Seattle sports fans who were just gearing up to pay four figures for Mariners playoff tickets are now wondering whether they’ll be able to experience one of the biggest events in their own city.

Join us as a Seattle resident attempts the world's deepest marathon for a Guinness World Record today.

A Seattle local is participating in a Guinness World Record today for the world’s deepest marathon.

Chris-King Sidney will be part of a group of 60 others running more than 3,675 feet below sea level — more than twice the length of the Empire State Building — in the Garpenberg Zinc Mine in Sweden on October 25.

The underground challenge will be Chris’ first marathon, begging the question: why this one?

“Well, I’ve never done one before. I’ve done a half before. I used to run cross country when I was in high school, and I figured, kind of bit of a bucket list thing. Why not?” Chris shared on “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “Do one, and this will be one and done. I don’t plan on doing another one. And if I’m going to do one, I might as well do something that’s a little bit crazy.”

He added that a large part of the event is to raise money for charity and spread awareness around mine safety. Chris said while mining has gotten a bad safety reputation, it’s actually an “incredibly safe profession.”

“A bit of what we’re trying to do here is to raise awareness around the safety of mining and the importance of mining for just our global economy and energy transition, and where it’s going,” he shared.

During the record attempt, the group will face temperatures of up to 86 degrees, will be in total silence, and will only have their head torch for light.

“We have headlamps that are affixed to the top of our helmets. We have high viz reflective shirts and socks, and everything so that we can be seen. We have transponders on our helmets, should something ever happen. And at the beginning of the run, there will be a sort of a staging area where there will be some lamps that are set up so that you can see. And there’s a turnaround point, because it’s not that we’re doing 26 miles all in one direction. It’s about a four-kilometer loop,” Chris explained.

A UW study reveals $2 trillion costs from COVID-19 school closures, urging better data collection for future pandemic preparedness.

A recent study from the University of Washington (UW) and Oxford found school closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 will cost the U.S. economy $2 trillion.

The staggering future deficit mainly stems from setbacks in student learning. The study revealed a significant global learning shortfall from the pandemic that needs to be addressed.

Researchers explained a combination of masks, testing, social distancing, and targeted shutdowns could have cut the pandemic’s cost from $4.6 trillion to $1.9 trillion.

KIRO Newsradio spoke with one of the authors of that study, Adrian E. Raftery, a Professor Emeritus of Statistics and Sociology at the UW.

Raftery said that during the pandemic, the data on the number of infections and the systems in place to track it were not good in the United States. He hopes that leaders invest in ways to improve health data collection, so we are ready for the next pandemic.

Seattle’s streets are slowly changing. Under the guidance of Police Chief Shon Barnes, the department is working to build a future rooted in consistency, community, and collaboration.

“For me, success looks like consistency. If you want to be successful, you have to do what it takes to be successful every day, the things you don’t want to do… showing up for people, empowering the people who are actually doing the work out there,” Barnes explains.

Barnes appeared on the “Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio to discuss what future policing in Seattle will look like.

In Barnes’ vision, success goes beyond numbers or statistics. It means a city where officers and community members collaborate, trust grows every day, and public safety is built through steady effort, careful planning, and strong partnerships.

Explore Jake's insights on unpermitted food vendors shut down for health violations outside Lumen Field.

More than a dozen unpermitted food vendors were shut down outside Lumen Field, many of which were operating without sufficient refrigeration or handwashing, KING 5 reported Wednesday.

KIRO host Jake Skorheim shared his own experience with a food vendor outside the stadium.

“My son and I went to a Mariners game, like, a month and a half ago, and we walked right by one, and I see this guy, he’s like, flinging up hot dogs. He’s pulling hot dogs out of a backpack, shoving them on the grill. And I’m thinking to myself, there’s just no way that this is a safe way to store food,” Jake said on “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

According to KING 5, there has been a surge in illegal food carts, with King County shutting down 27 carts in 2023, but then shutting down 111 in 2024 — a 300% spike.

“They’re not licensed, they’re not legal, they’re not healthy,” KIRO host Spike O’Neill remarked.

Katie Wilson outlines her housing strategy as she leads polls, setting the stage for her potential administration.

General Election Day is less than two weeks away, and the race for Seattle mayor is entering its final stretch.

After taking the lead in a poll over Mayor Bruce Harrell, Katie Wilson started laying the groundwork for her potential administration.

“We’ve been doing a lot of serious work to make sure that I’m going to be ready to step into office and lead from day one,” Wilson told “The John Curley Show” on KIRO Newsradio Thursday.

Harrell recently claimed Wilson lacks the experience to become mayor, saying she has “zero housing experience” and has “done no work in the sector.”

Meanwhile, Wilson sees the homelessness crisis as a housing issue.

“There’s lots of homeless people in Seattle who work full-time jobs, and they might live in their vehicle, or they might even live in a tent, but housing is so expensive that it’s just really hard to afford that. That’s more of an issue here,” Wilson shared.

And really, if we look at it, we’ve had this tech boom for the last 10, 20 years, we’ve had population growth, and our housing stock hasn’t grown to match, and that’s really driven up rents. It’s really driven up home prices, and so we have a much worse homelessness crisis here as a result,” she continued.

Wilson said building more housing comes down to Seattle’s land use and zoning laws.

“One of the things that we can do, that I’m interested in, is expanding the number of neighborhood centers around the city, and so those are areas where, kind of like neighborhood business districts — you’re allowed to build higher, you’re allowed to build more multi-family housing. There’s a lot of things we can do in our land use and zoning laws to make it possible for the private market to build more housing in the great neighborhoods all over the city. And we absolutely need to do that,” she explained.

When asked about deterring homeless people from other cities from coming to Seattle, Wilson said she doesn’t think that’s the right approach.

“Certainly within King County, it’s true that a lot of people who become homeless in other cities end up coming to Seattle because that is where lots of the services are. That is where a lot of the shelter is — and so we do need those other cities to step up — but I don’t think that trying to take a hard line here in Seattle on not helping people who become homeless somewhere else is the right way to do that,” she said.

Legendary broadcaster Rick Rizzs recaps the Seattle Mariners' remarkable and record-setting 2025 campaign.

The Seattle Mariners finished its 2025 season with the deepest postseason run in franchise history, but fell to the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, one game short of a World Series berth.

Legendary Mariners broadcaster Rick Rizzs recapped how proud he is of the team, his favorite moment throughout the season, and what’s on deck for next year on “Seattle’s Morning News” on KIRO Newsradio.

“Oh, what a year. It was the best year on the field in the history of the franchise. But it came to a disappointing end a few nights ago in Toronto,” Rizzs said. “They were just so close they could touch it, and that’s the hard part to deal with. They were just one win away from playing in the World Series.”

Mariners finish among the top teams in the league

As Rizzs looked back on the Mariners’ journey towards the postseason and deep, hard-fought battle through it, he couldn’t help but take a moment to recognize the Mariners as one of the premier teams in baseball.

“At the very end of the year, the last few days of the season, there are only three teams left standing. The Mariners were one of those three teams, and I think we have to take a lot of pride in that,” Rizzs said. “It was a remarkable season by this baseball team, and one that I’ll never forget. A tremendous year by this baseball team.”

The Mariners’ 2025 season was filled with favorable moments, including Catcher Cal Raleigh’s record-breaking home run totals and Home Run Derby crown, and Gold Glove nominee Julio Rodriguez’s fourth straight 20 home run, 20 stolen base season, but one shining moment stood alone for Rizzs.

“Jorge Polanco’s base hit in the bottom of the 15th inning to win the Division Series and send the Mariners to the American League Championship was, in my mind, the biggest moment. It kept the season alive, you know?” Rizzs said. “47,000 fans going crazy in T-Mobile Park was so much fun. There were so many great moments this year, but that stands out.”

While the team heads toward a brief off-season and prepares to report for Spring Training in February, co-host Charlie Harger asked Rizzs if we will hear him back in the broadcast booth for the Mariners’ highly anticipated 2026 campaign.

“Oh yeah, oh yeah, I’m coming back. It’s been a great run, and the best thing that has ever happened to me was Dave Niehaus,” Rizzs said. “I got here in 1983 as a young broadcaster. David liked my tape, and it was the greatest thing in the world that happened to me. I got a chance to raise my family and grandkids here because of David,

“I’ve had an incredible run. I love this organization and the fans. The fans have been so great to meet,” Rizzs continued. “You’re talking to a 71-year-old guy who’s living his dream, and I hope everybody has a chance to say that someday about what they do for a living. I love this game, and yeah, I’ll be back.”

Greta Niehaus recalls a crucial hit near her father's statue during a memorable Mariners game, celebrating Dave Niehaus' legacy.

During the Seattle Mariners’ chaotic 15-inning game, Greta Niehaus found comfort sitting near the statue of her father, Hall of Fame broadcaster Dave Niehaus.

“It just came over me. It was almost just like I was being led,” Greta said on “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio. “I was pacing back and forth, like everyone watching, but also just so anxious and nail biting. And I went out in the hallway, and I was pacing up and down. And they have these beautiful photos of old ball players lined in the hallway. And I was touching them all and saying, ‘Come on, need all you guys here.’ And then I just saw the sign that said stairs, and so I just felt drawn to go to the statue, and I just went straight down, kept walking instead of turning around and pacing backwards, and went down the stairs to the 100 level.”

Greta said she wiggled her way through the crowd, to her dad’s statue. When she got there, something magical happened.

“I just felt this pull, this urge to be there, and it was crazy, because as soon as I sat down, I just grabbed on to him, and that’s when it happened — that’s when Polanco did it, that exact moment — and I just was so happy, like everybody just jumping and hugging all these people,” she shared.

Greta said two ladies pulled her aside and showed her a photo they had taken of her with the statue.

“I said, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s so special. Would you mind sharing that with me?’ Because it just meant so much and and they went on to tell me a little bit about their stories and how they grew up watching the Mariners and with their dads,” she shared. “And one of them had lost her dad a couple years ago, and just this special connection, that baseball brings to people, it brings us together.”

Explore Spike's defense of the 1% property tax cap affecting Edmonds and its impact on local homeowners.

In 2007, the Washington legislature voted to reinstate a 1% annual cap on property tax increases for cities and counties, which Representative Ross Hunter viewed as “the single worst vote” he made in his career. Years later, Hunter is advocating for the passage of Proposition 1, which would allow cities and counties to go beyond the 1% cap on property taxes.

As a resident near Edmonds, KIRO host Spike O’Neill noted his frustration with potentially removing the 1% property tax cap on “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio, further stating that the initiative was created with the thought of tax raises through other avenues.

“It sucks. I’m glad [Hunter] is doing so well, I’m glad he can afford another 5% of his home’s value coming out of his pocket, but respectfully, you should walk a mile in my shoes,” Spike said. “I think they voted to cap it at 1% knowing some foresight that other things are also going to be raised. You can’t come at them from every side. You can’t dip your hand in every pocket. They should keep the cap.”

“It seems like he’s not speaking for the average person. The average person is sick of property taxes,” KIRO host Jake Skorheim said. “I think [Hunter] is way off, which is why I’m glad he’s not in the office anymore.”

Claudia Balducci emphasizes the importance of Sound Transit as new light rail stations approach, despite current budget challenges.

As Sound Transit prepares to open several light rail stations across King County, the candidate for King County Executive, Claudia Balducci, stated the next phase in the city’s plans is “terribly over budget.”

Despite the financial concerns, Balducci noted that Sound Transit remains a valuable transportation option for the community on “The John Curley Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

“You can ride the light rail in East King County, which was not a thing that you could do before I was on the county council, so I’m proud that we are opening the light rail. We’re testing across the bridge right now; it’ll open in a few months. The challenge is that we are spending a lot of money,” Balducci said. “The next phase is terribly over budget. We’re looking at a $30 billion potential cost overrun.”

Considering the project is largely over budget and beyond the initial projected completion date, Curley asked whether the transit system, overall, will be utilized in a way that is worth the amount of money spent.

“What percentage of money are you taking from the taxpayer, putting it into the train, and then saying, ‘Is that worth it?'” Curley asked. “Two to 3% of the total commuters will actually use public transportation, so that’s a lot of money for a very, very small group of people.”

“It gives all of us a choice; we can all choose to ride it. We didn’t have that choice before; to me, that is the value of creating a fixed route, high-capacity transit system, as opposed to just another bus. And it drives economic development in ways that nothing else does.”

Bad Bunny headlines this year's Super Bowl halftime show, sparking debate on its selection and audience reception.

This year’s Super Bowl halftime show performance will feature the Grammy Award-winning musician, Bad Bunny, which was followed by major controversy as a petition to remove the Puerto Rican singer has received more than 10,000 signatures.

As the petition called for country singer George Strait as a substitute, KIRO host Gee Scott divulged his personal dissatisfaction with the choice and summarized why many viewers across the U.S. may oppose the selection on “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio.

“My daughter loves Bad Bunny, a lot of people do, but I am actually on the side of the Conservatives and whoever out there,” Gee said. “In 2020, it was Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, 2021 was The Weeknd, and in 2022 it was Dr. Dre, Snoop, and Eminem. People are thinking, ‘Can we get something for us next time?’ Then you gave them Kendrick Lamar last year, and they pushed the limits.

“I’m not saying George Strait, but Jay Z, who makes the decision, can you give us something? Give some love,” Gee continued. “You’re going to hit me with Kendrick Lamar last year, and I didn’t understand that. Then you hit me with Bad Bunny, I’m not going to understand that either.”

Discover how Bruce Harrell and Katie Wilson leverage social media in their heated race for Seattle's mayoral seat.

As the race for Seattle’s next mayor between Bruce Harrell and challenger Katie Wilson continues to intensify, both candidates have prioritized building a strong online social media presence to boost voter appeal. In the August primary, Wilson earned nearly 51% of the vote, compared to Harrell’s 43%.

Wilson shared a post on social media discussing the price of pizza, which garnered more than 96,000 views. This prompted Mayor Harrell to release a campaign video explaining his deep ties to Seattle, accompanied by a touch of music from Nirvana and some pivotal Mariners highlights from recent years.

KIRO host John Curley laid out the two candidates’ participation in social media in full on “The John Curley Show” on KIRO Newsradio, concluding that Wilson’s success on various social media platforms has led Mayor Harrell to follow suit.

“Apparently, social media is rearing its ugly head, or pretty head, when it comes to the mayoral race in Seattle,” Curley said. “I guess Harrell is slowly starting to make his way into social media, because he realized that Katie Wilson has done so well with that pizza thing she put on TikTok or Instagram, and Bruce decided he’s going to start flexing his Seattle roots on TikTok.”

Discover the implications of Washington State Ferries' first out-of-state shipyard contract in 50 years for new vessel construction.

Washington has decided to contract with an out-of-state shipyard for the first time in 50 years to build new Washington State Ferries (WSF) vessels.

Reporter Tom Banse outlined the arrangement in an article for The Washington State Standard and discussed it on “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio, calling the deal “interesting.”

“The deal was interesting from the get-go, because there were competing values, of spending our tax dollars locally or getting more for our buck by going to a Florida shipyard,” Banse said.

He explained that state officials announced in the summer that Washington would contract with Eastern Shipbuilding, a shipyard in the Florida Panhandle, for three new hybrid electric ferries.

“My colleague and I were interested to actually look at the contract and read it, once that was signed, and that only recently was made public. And this interesting arrangement became even more interesting because, on top of the issue of taxpayer savings versus local jobs, there is now the issue of time versus money. And Eastern Shipbuilding got a few changes to the standard template of the contract that Washington State Ferries first put forward for all the bidders nationwide, and one of them is an extra year to deliver each of those three new ferries,” Banse continued.

He added that he only found out about the extra time because he noticed a change in the contract.

Banse explained that there was a local bidder in the beginning, Nicholas Brothers, based on Whidbey Island. Nicholas Brothers said it could deliver the first ferry in 2029, the second one in 2030, and the third one in 2031 — but they bid over $1 billion for three new ferries.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Shipbuilding bid was $714 million.

“So the state leaders, all the way up to Governor Ferguson, decided, ‘As much as we’d like to keep our dollars at home and grow the shipbuilding capacity and know-how in our state, we just can’t afford it,” Banse said.

Explore the real meaning behind Trump Derangement Syndrome and its implications on political discourse and criticism.

Every time Gee and I criticize President Trump or his administration, some listeners text in with that tired refrain: “You’ve got Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

It used to bug me. Now? I wear it like a badge of honor.

Labeling fact-based criticism as “derangement” is a lazy deflection. We call out his actions because the stakes are real — and what’s transpired under this administration is alarming. All of it is also public record.

In the past nine months alone, President Trump has acted less like a public servant and more like a strongman. He’s invoked emergency powers to sidestep Congress, he’s thrown out career officials in favor of loyalists, and continues to attack journalists, calling them the enemy of the people.

Just this week, dozens of reporters handed in their badges in protest of the Pentagon’s new rules that would force them to sign away their independence.

These moves are aimed at consolidating power, silencing dissent, and chipping away at the very checks and balances that keep our democracy alive.

This should be worrisome to EVERYONE.

Trump has also gone after civil rights and diversity programs under the guise of being anti-woke.

And while his administration is handing out billions of dollars overseas — including a $20 billion package to Argentina — the U.S. government is now in its 15th day of a shutdown, with hundreds of thousands of federal workers missing paychecks. At the same time, deep cuts are hitting special education, food assistance, and other vital programs that serve the most vulnerable here at home.

Let’s not forget: he’s the first convicted felon to serve in the White House, he was found liable for sexual abuse and defamation, attempted to overturn a legitimate election, and called the January 6 rioters “patriots” — later pardoning them. He’s weaponized the Justice Department to punish opponents, and he rewards loyalists and grifters while firing anyone who dares to say “no.”

That’s a lot … but it doesn’t stop there.

He’s mocked scientists, turned public health into a culture war, pushed anti-trans policies, and demonized immigrants — all while using racial dog whistles. It’s been lucrative for him—he’s enriched himself by billions.

Meanwhile, working families are still struggling with grocery prices, and the Epstein files remain locked away.

If there’s a syndrome at play here, it’s Trump Denial Syndrome — the refusal to see corruption, cruelty, and authoritarian behavior even when it’s right in front of you.

Blind loyalty doesn’t make someone virtuous or more attractive. It makes them complicit. Too many right-wing influencers and media figures profit from that complicity. Their silence isn’t neutrality — it’s cowardice and a total grift.

That’s why dissent matters.

Democracy doesn’t die from outrage. It dies from apathy.

No, I don’t have Trump Derangement Syndrome.

I have a functioning moral compass — and I refuse to apologize for using it.

Discover how Jeremy Bellwood celebrated the Mariners by flying his plane and tracing a Trident pattern in the Seattle sky.

A Seattle Mariners superfan, Jeremy Bellwood, expressed his love for the team in a unique way by flying his plane above downtown Seattle and tracing the Mariners’ trident into the sky.

The longtime season ticket holder and pilot for 13 years told “The Jake and Spike Show” how he used Google Earth to map out his route to create a Mariners trident above Seattle.

“I’ve actually seen other planes that have done these line art drawings using a single, continuous line,” Bellwood said. “I always thought it’d be cool to do something, but never really had an idea of what it was that I wanted to do, until the Mariners clinched the division and we were headed to the playoffs.”

Bellwood built the plane himself back in 2017, and after considering various Mariners logos, he landed on a trident to be traced directly above T-Mobile Park ahead of Game 3.

“I was looking through all the logos of the Mariners, and I was trying to play around with a big S with the compass in the middle, but that’d be too challenging,” Bellwood said. “I ended up on the Trident, which works great because Trident stuff has kind of been the motto of the season, and now with ‘Seize the Moment,’ I mean, what better way to celebrate the team and what they’ve done.”

After a tough defeat in Game 3, Rizzs emphasizes the Mariners' need to move on from their 13-4 loss against the Blue Jays.

The Seattle Mariners suffered a tough 13-4 loss at home in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) v. the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.

As the Mariners’ series lead was shortened to one game, the club’s longtime broadcaster, Rick Rizzs, joined “Seattle’s Morning News” on KIRO Newsradio to reassure Mariners fans of the team’s resiliency.

“In baseball, there’s always a reset. The guys forget about the night before, whether it was good, bad, or otherwise. The Mariners have forgotten about it, they flushed it, and now they hope to score a bunch of runs,” Rizzs said. “One thing about this baseball team that I’ve seen all season long, they’re very resilient. They bounce back after tough losses and tough stretches.”

Mariners look to bounce back after lopsided Game 3 loss

Rizzs explained how fast narratives can change in baseball, especially in the playoffs. The Mariners jumped out to an early lead in Game 3, but the Blue Jays showed up in Seattle with something to prove as their backs were up against the wall.

“It was a tough night at the office last night. We were looking to see if the Mariners could make it three in a row. But man, the Blue Jays came out swinging last night,” Rizzs said. “It was a really quick change in momentum. It looked like the Mariners would be doing the bashing after Julio hit a rocket of a two-run home run, but all of a sudden, the Blue Jays came up with five runs.”

Starting pitcher George Kirby had a rough outing in last night’s game, surrendering eight earned runs on eight hits over four innings of work. Mariners fans are gearing up for the second of the ALCS home games, with veteran pitcher Luis Castillo leading the charge in tonight’s matchup.

“George Kirby just couldn’t get out of the middle of the order. The Blue Jays didn’t miss anything in the 3rd inning, they kept adding on, and Toronto won their first game,” Rizzs said. “The Mariners still have a two games to one lead, they’re at home before a sellout crowd tonight for Game 4 and Game 5 tomorrow. They’re still just two games away from getting to the World Series.”

The Mariners and Blue Jays play in Game 4 of the ALCS tonight at 5:33 p.m. Tune in to Seattle Sports 710 for pregame and live coverage.
