Honeyed Chicken Wings – Your Zen Moment in Bangalore!

June 28, 2015 by Aadil Leave a Comment

Honeyed Chicken Wings at Sunnys

While food is a basic necessity, it’s also something that comforts people. For the aficionados though, if cooked, described, presented and tastes exactly what it should be like – it hits the spot, it delights them. Put’s them into a zone like no other – for that one moment when you take the first bite, when it’s aroma hits your nose for the very first time, when your taste buds sense it’s very first morsel, you experience zen.

Zen is exactly what comfort food is all about. And for those of us who’re food evangelists, every now and then we crave for that comfort food. I experienced this craving lately when I craved for Honeyed Chicken Wings with a tinge of zesty lemon. Fired up my car, took along the better half and my three year old, programmed the GPS to Lavelle Road in Bangalore and hit Sunnys.

Sunnys is a piquant place nestled at Lavelle Road. It has a nice rustic ambiance in the form a gardened seating if you will on the outside and then also a timber like air conditioned seating inside. We opted for the former as my toddler wanted to run around and play. Got straight into the act and for my first appetizer ordered exactly what I’d come there for – honeyed lemon chicken wings.

Boy oh boy, weren’t we delighted! The wings were cooked perfectly, the balance of lemon zest and the sweetness of the honey were precision perfect, the honey lemon glaze served alongside tickled our senses. My wife Saniya had this uber gorgeous smile on her face when she bit into it, my son Hammaad – a finicky eater, instantly said – “This is Awesome Dad! I want more!” – and yours truly, well, yours truly just experienced that Zen moment!

It’s not just about you enjoying the food – true happiness and zen are when you’re family and friends experience exactly the same amount of joy if not a little more than you do. Food is not something that you have three times a day to survive, food is something you experience every single day – that makes your life better and more worthwhile, one dish at a time! #Indulge! 🙂

Desert Goodness at Monkey Bar

August 4, 2014 by Aadil Leave a Comment

Lemon Cake at Monkey Bar, Bangalore

Some people have a sweet tooth. Me, I have sweet teeth. I happened to visit Monkey Bar at Indira Nagar in Bangalore with my office colleagues for some after office fun. While we savored the Crab Rangoon, Shaami Sliders, Tiger Beef, Butterfly Chicken and even gorged one some scintillating Berry Pulao, but what I loved the most about Monkey Bar was their desert.

We ordered for a humble Lemon Cake. When we were served the Lemon Cake, all the humility instantly evaporated if you will. The above picture will tell you why. It was this gorgeous sponge cake with a tinge of very subtle lemon flavor that was helped with a generous portion of lemon curd. The lemon curd added the zing required to turn that sponge cake into a winner.

But that’s not all, the fresh mangoes served along side, gave it the much needed balance that would have other wise been an absolute sinner. We weren’t complaining though. Didn’t stop at one. Had to repeat the order four more times till our cravings were satisfied. 🙂

Salmon & Cream Cheese Bagel

December 8, 2013 by Aadil Leave a Comment

Salmon & Cream Cheese Bagel

Au Bon Pain India invited a bunch of food enthusiasts and food bloggers to their biggest cafe in India which recently opened up at Indira Nagar in Bangalore for a Foodathon. Yours truly was also invited as part of this Foodathon. Au Bon Pain wanted us to try their fresh menu and give them feedback on the entire Au Bon Pain experience.

So I went there with a good friend of mine Rakesh Nagaraj. We were welcomed by the courteous Au Bon Pain staff and were introduced to foodies who were already present there for the foodathon. Was fun bumping into Hrish Thota – caught up with him after a really long time.

As part of the foodathon, we tried a lot of stuff from Smoked Salmon Wasabi Sandwiches to Blackbean Burgers, Tuna Salad Multigrain to Sundried Tomato & Cheese Sandwich, Litchi Iced Tea, Frozen Hot Chocolate, Frozen Mocha and the likes. But what stole the show for me personally was the super yummy Bagel with Cream Cheese & Salmon. The bagel had a generous serving of salmon and just the right amount of cream cheese. The Chicken & Cream Cheese Soup is another must have at Au Bon Pain.

If you ever get the Cream Cheese / Salmon craving, you know now, where to go! 🙂

Tiramisu at California Pizza Kitchen

November 28, 2013 by Aadil Leave a Comment

Tiramisu at California Pizza Kitchen

In one of my earlier posts I mentioned that I’d dined at California Pizza Kitchen and when I wrote that post I knew that I had to write one about CPK. CPK in Bangalore has three outlets located at Indira Nagar, Koramangala & Phoenix MarketCity.

My favorite CPK Outlet is the Indira Nagar one. A few things that I really enjoy on the CPK Menu are the Chicken Thai Crunch Salad, Santa Fe Pizza and Shakey Prawns. But most of all, I love their desserts. In particular I’m a big fan of their Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese.

What I enjoy most and go time and again to CPK for is their Tiramisu. CPK’s Tiramisu is one dish that makes me salivate instantaneously. It comprises of rich mascarpone cheese and espresso soaked lady fingers with a touch of Kahlua topped with house made sabayon sprinkled with freshly grated dark chocolate. Life is good! 🙂

Shahi Tukra!

November 22, 2013 by Aadil Leave a Comment

Shahi Tukra

Jiski khusbhoo se mehek utthe fizza; Jiski rangat se bhi aa jaye maza;
Ho nafees aur lazeez har luqma, zaiqa iska ho har ek se juda;
Kha ke ho jaye jehvan kushk mehman, hum bechaate hain wahi dastarkhan!

The above is an old couplet by Rizvi. And something that I precisely experienced at Kebabs & Curries Restaurant at ITC Gardenia in Bangalore recently. The service is par excellence, the food is absolutely majestic and the ambiance – la jawaab!

What I enjoyed most as part of my dinner was this exquisite desert called ‘Shahi Tukra Asal’. This magnificent dish is a combination of delicately produced milk poured over crisp home made bread sweetened in  saffron syrup garnished with silver leaf and fine pistachio. If you have a sweet tooth, this is luxury you must experience!

Introducing Crab Rangoon!

November 20, 2013 by Aadil Leave a Comment

Crab Rangoon

Wontons can be nice if cooked well. Crispy layer on the outside – you bite into them and they give you a bag full of flavors – depending on what you’ve ordered off course. So this one time, we headed to Trader Vic’s Mai Tai Lounge at Orion Mall, Bangalore.

Saw something interesting on the menu called Crab Rangoon. A close friend of mine Rakesh was with me and we instantly ordered the same. When the dish was served, picked one up and popped it in – holy cow! It was one of the most yummiest things I’d ever had! Think about spiced crab and cream cheese hitting your palette when you bite into a crisp wanton – yup, that’s exactly what happened!

The dish but ofcourse, did more than a couple of repeat rounds and tell you what – this is one dish that I highly recommend!

Honey Chilly Chicken Wings

November 19, 2013 by Aadil 2 Comments

Chicken Wings at Mother Cluckers

A really nice place in Indira Nagar to hang out is Mother Cluckers. They have a nice rugged ambiance and the food – just about amazing.  My favorite dish here is the Honey Chilly Chicken Wings.

I’ve had wings at plenty of places in Bangalore and have liked them too. A few great places where I’ve enjoyed chicken wings include Millers 46 on Millers Road, Rewind at 100 Ft Road Indira Nagar and News Cafe – again at 100 Ft Road, Indira Nagar. However, my most favorite place to grab some wings – Mother Cluckers.

Whats spectacular about this dish is its contrasting flavors. The wings are tossed in red hot chilly and then honeyed up. They’re not sweet by any means – no, but they are spicy as hell. Having said that, when those two contrasting flavors of sugar and spice come alive, you know you have a winner of a dish!

YouCook – Grill up, then fill up!

November 18, 2013 by Aadil Leave a Comment

Aadil & Mahesh at YouCook

Some time last month, the guys at work decided to go out for a team dinner. We chose to head out to this place that one of my colleagues Sebastian recommended called YouCook at IndiraNagar, Bangalore.

What’s cool about this place is that they have really large tables and right at the center of each table – they have this huge grill – where in you actually grill stuff, cook it and then eat it. Now I understand that when we’re paying stuff, we should get ready food on the table, but this by itself – the fact that you grill / cook your own meal is an experience in itself! Something that yours truly thoroughly enjoyed!

They have all kinds of kebabs which are already marinated in different textures and masalas – you pick what you like – grill and indulge! There’s chicken kebabs, lamb sheekhs, beef kebabs, crab meatballs, fish fillets, prawns, squids – you name it. For the vegetarians, there’s options too – potatoes, paneer, baby corn and other stuff – that I didn’t concentrate on. Bottom line though – a great experience!

Oreo Cheese Cake – Ooh La La!

November 17, 2013 by Aadil Leave a Comment

Oreo Cheese Cake at Spiga, Bangalore

Spiga at St.Marks Road, Bangalore is one place the wife and me love to frequent. The service is good, ambiance nice, but the best of all – quality of food served. If you’d ask most of my friends how I like to start my meals, they’ll all jump up and say – he starts with desserts.

Quirky – i know. Weird – i agree. Strange – yes.  Surprised? – You should be. But then, that’s me – I’ve always loved starting my meals with desserts. And one of my all time favorite desserts in Bangalore is the Oreo Cheese Cake. I have no idea the magic that the Oreo Cheese Cake at Spiga spins at me, but it is this one dish that keeps getting me back there time and again.

If you like Oreo Cheese Cakes though, there is this one more place at Cunningham Road in Bangalore you must hit. Its called Dolci. I’d rank their Oreo Cheese Cake #2 in Bangalore – right after Spiga. Bon Appetite!

Simple Pleasures of Life!

November 15, 2013 by Aadil Leave a Comment

Anda Bhurjee

Was time for breakfast. This one day, felt like eating something simple. Something very Indian. Something light. Yet something that’ll hit the spot.

Drove down to The Egg Factory on St.Marks Road in Bangalore. Ordered a Bun Masala. Essentially scrambled eggs smashed with Indian spices served along with a bun that’s lightly flamed over butter. The Egg Factory is just one of those breakfast places in Bangalore where you can go and be rest assured in terms of what you order, your taste buds will guarantee happiness.

The Bun Masala was exactly what I wanted – the perfect start to my lazy weekend. Speaking of which, it’s Friday already. Now then, where am I heading over the weekend? 🙂
