Seattle Mariners fans “seized the moment” in a citywide march ahead of Game 4 of the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell invited fans to march from City Hall to T-Mobile Park, with the UW Husky Marching Band leading the way.
“I’m feeling we’re going to go get a W! We’re ready to take it all. Tonight’s the night. We’re going to let them have their night. Get it out of the way. It’s about to be boom city tonight,” Mariners fan Leah Stanek said.
The march began at 2 p.m., with a brief speaking program opening the festivities.

“Seattle is all in. Our city is standing behind the Mariners and ready for this historic run,” Harrell said in a statement. “From the teamâs incredible performance and continued victories to Humpyâs unforgettable win, weâve seen how this team brings people together. Thursdayâs rally is our chance to keep that momentum going â to show our pride, celebrate our city, and Seize the Moment together.”
The Seattle Sports Commission and the Downtown Seattle Association assisted in hosting the event and march.
Harrell proclaims Oct. 16 as âHumpy Dayâ
Harrell took the opportunity to cement Humpyâs legacy by calling Oct. 16 âHumpy Dayâ from here on out.
Midway through the 15th inning of Friday nightâs marathon do-or-die playoff game between Seattle and Detroit in the ALDS, the beloved Humpy picked up his first career win in the Marinersâ âSalmon Runâ mascot race, eliciting a massive roar from the 47,025 fans packed into T-Mobile Park.
The Salmon Run began at the beginning of the 2024 season, with four human-sized salmon mascots racing one time in each home game. âKing,â the raceâs perennial favorite, dons a crown and cape as it races, âSockeyeâ wears flannel, synonymous with Seattle fashion, âSilverâ represents the cityâs technology sector, and then thereâs âHumpyâ â a cross-eyed salmon that needs a life preserver.
After 167 failed races, Humpy won for the first time, followed by one of the Seattle Marinersâ biggest moments in franchise history.
The Mariners have never held two Salmon Runs in the same game before, but after the sudden-death matchup between Seattle and Detroit stretched into an improbable 15th inning, the team decided to hold a second run. As usual, Humpy fell behind early. But down the stretch, the other salmon ran into each other, which allowed Humpy to surge past them and pick up his first career victory.
Less than 10 minutes later, Polanco sent the Mariners to a place they havenât been in nearly a quarter-century.
